What Not to Forget When Moving House

Moving to a new house can be an exciting adventure, but it can be stressful if you don't have a plan of action in place. The best way to make the process as painless as possible is to begin planning your move months in advance and to write out a list of everything that needs to be done. There are a number of simple steps you can take that will save you a world of stress and worry.

Dig Out Hidden Valuables or Spare Keys

Many people hide spare keys or valuables such as jewellery in secret spaces in their homes. In order not be running around searching for important objects on the day of the move, and to prevent you from forgetting anything, you will need to gather up your valuables well in advance. Make sure they are still in a safe place, but keep them together. Remember to check your car, garage, attic and similar places for hidden little possessions.

Redirect Your Post

It will be terribly inconvenient if you move to a new house across the country, only to have important mail arrive at your old address. You will need to contact your post office and let them know the address of your new home and the date they should begin redirecting your mail in plenty of time to avoid this issue arising.

Change Your Contact Information

There are many people who will need your new contact information, and it's best to make up a list well in advance of the move in order not to forget anyone. It's important to tell your bank about your move, as well as professionals such as your doctor and dentist. Your family and friends won't take kindly to being left out of the loop either, and of course you need to inform your workplace.
